Case Study
Situation: A client launching a first-to-market drug in an orphan indication was interesting in quantifying the financial burden of disease in order to demonstrate potential cost savings of treatment to payers.
Approach: A tripartite analysis was taken to understand the burden of disease. First, a claims analysis based on ICD-9/10 codes was undertaken to understand the associated comorbidities, costs, and disease trajectory of patients. This was then augmented with a comprehensive review of peer-reviewed literature related to disease natural history and epidemiology. These data were further validated with input from global KOLs
Outcome: Through this HEOR analysis, the client was able to demonstrate the value of their product to payers and cost savings provided by treatment coverage vs. the cost of untreated disease.
